As a mother of three, I know that your child will always be your baby. Seeing them through the years of college preparation (not to mention the college years themselves) can feel like a tricky road to navigate at the best of times.
You’ve worked hard to provide for them, to protect them, to help them, nurture them and love them. Preparing to help them launch into adulthood and self-sufficiency can feel scary, overwhelming, stressful and bittersweet all at the same time.
As a professional who has worked with many brilliant and talented students over the years, I also understand how important it is for your child to reflect on their individual sense of self to build a foundation of self-empowerment through the college application process. It can be a trying time but it can also be an amazing time where you get to see your children take on a new level of responsibility and grow into themselves even more, right before you very eyes.
Unfortunately, we can’t always be the ones to tell our kids what might be best for them or how to make important decisions, especially in this very unique stage of still living at home and finishing high school, but preparing to emerge from the nest and chart new territory. Throughout this process, one of my many roles is to relieve parents of any pressure to know all the answers and research behind the college admissions process and to let them take on a role of support, encouragement and cheerleading for their child.
One of the goals in my process is to not only see your child into a college that is holistically suited to their needs and provides the support the require, but to also help parents and students shed any anxieties or worries about the future that may strain their relationship as students prepare for increased responsibility and independence. You don’t need to have all the answers. That’s where I come in to lend a hand.
I invite you to the contact form to contact me with any specific questions you may have or to set up a consultation. For now, take a deep breath and remember how well you’ve prepared them for this moment. All will be well.
I look forward to having the opportunity to speak with your family and your child about mapping their journey into thier best-matched college experience.
